Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
edited 9 December 2011 at 10:16AM in Consumer rights
My son bought a car from a repair centre (not a big one), paid cash & got a receipt. He's had a couple of problems with it - the drive shaft needed replaced (which had already been replaced before purchasing it) & now the brakes are a bit unreliable - make a noise when using them. Seemingly the right hand brake Shim was fixed before my son bought the car. Same side as he now has the problem.

What are his rights regarding taking it back? I'm not sure if it's only 7 days after purchasing it (he thinks it came with no warranty - probably sold as seen).

Can anyone offer some advise please? Meant to add - he only bought the car a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you... We live in Scotland if this makes a difference to consumer rights.

  • Take it back to the repair centre and have a chat to them. Depending on how second-hand and old it is it would be reasonable to expect it not to be in perfect condition.

There's not enough to reject the car for a refund, you cannot do that on the basis of noisy brakes which work fine. Did the repair center fix the axle for him or did he pay?
