British Gas Quote

I posted recently about our combination boiler that might need replacing. Anyway got the qoute from British Gas and its close to £2,400 after a discount offer they had. I knew it would be expensive. However it comes in 3 parts - £900 ish for the actual boiler £1600 is for the installation then a further £200 odd for 'complaince'. I telephoned to ask what that was for and they said for the materials to be delivered and the old boiler to be taken.
I am happy to take the old boiler to the tip myself and I have never heard of anyone charging the customer for delivering the materials..... is this normal ?

BG first quotes are tpically 40% more expensive than a local independent GSR RGI. Get at least a couple of quotes. No free lunch, and no free laptop

It is impossible to comment on the price, as it doesn't say if it is a direct like for like swap, or that it needs alterations to they system e.g. new gaspipe, but BG prices tend to be exceptionally high.cottonhead wrote: »... got the qoute from British Gas and its close to £2,400 after a discount offer they had...
BG are notorious for lying to their customers. I bet that so called discount was a load of nonsense, what was the discount for?
What model boiler did they quote for?0 -
I was expecting a highish quote but its paying £200 for the parts to be delieverd and to take the old boiler away that has got me. Seems like they are just charging me for nothing. The boiler is a Worcester Green 28i high..... there is no alteration required.
Thought we would be stick with BG as they do a payment plan and we dont have a spare £2000 however my parents kindly offered to lend us the money and we then pay them back at a rate we can afford so I am ringing around local plumbers now ( noe ever seem to answer or return my calls though - I dont think I sound that scary ! ).0 -
You don't want a plumber, you need a GSR RGI. Not all plumbers are qualified to do gas installs. No free lunch, and no free laptop
