Got a slight problem i wonder if someone can help. i was told today that my job was at risk but have been offered suitiable employment been there 12 years but was told it will be a 6 months probation period because its a new job .so would this void my rights

why is it deemed suitable? Is it within your skill set?

did they say probation, or did they perhaps say "trial period" which is different in this context.

6 months probation just had some good advice from a union member who is a regional member she says make sure that it says contionous

Yes it is - but like any other probaton - if you don't pass it you don't pass it. The only difference is that the employer has to prove you didn't.

if in a redundancy context it is a "trial period" it is a trial period for both sides, however. So at the end of the period they sit down and see if it worked and if it did, continue, and if not redundancy terms are available. This is however all agreed in writing at the beginning.

If probation there is a possibility of being out on a performance management procedure with no redundancy - even if the role was not really suitable, but you accepted it anyway.

I would suggest that's why it is important to check.
