EON Rip Off

Eon have sent me a statement dated 12/11/11. That is 3 days before my monthly DD £124 goes through. It says I am £57.61 in credit. Therefore I must be £181.61 in credit. Fine, you would think.

They estimate I will use £782 Electricity and £682 Gas in the coming year. That is £1464 or £122 per month. OK, no problem, you would think, bearing in mind that I am already £181.61 in credit.

However, they go on to say they will increase my DD to £149.

This is a rip off. They want me, and no doubt many others, to finance their business.

course they want you to finance their business, that's why they sell stuff instead of giving it away.

But it isn't difficult. They look at your energy usage and then the computer calculates what they think it'll be for the next year. A person doesn't sit there working out how to screw you; if you don't agree phone them and talk to somebody.
  • Just had the same thing happen to me over 100 pounds in credit but they want to almost double my DD I dont thinks so, its my money not theres and this was the last straw in a long line of mistakes on my account. Im now looking to switch.

if you have a look in your account it shows you a comparison to last years usage which is where it'll probably pick up the change. I just found it on mine, but pretty sure i won't be getting an increase as my usage has been down every month on last year. 50% less in August than August 2010 and 88% less November 2011 compared to 2010

This response just doesnt go anywhere near answering the many many examples listed in this forum for both Eon and Edf. I think there is ample evidence that while it isnt a person, the system they operate is indeed quite deliberately designed to screw you.
  • how can they screw you then.. you over pay and get in credit and ask for the money back, they don't make you use more to compensate the direct debit.

Suggest you read any of the Eon Direct Debit threads to gain an understanding.
  • They've just decreased my DD from £100 to £70.

Three months after increasing it from £84.
  • My usage has gone down this year, I was in credit last year and they didnt increas dd.
They seem to want you to pay in advance for winte user. I will not be told that I have to increase my DD by a jumped up call centre operative.
What they want is your money sitting in their account gaining intrest.

Just to clarify the credit on the account has been taken into account when calcing the new mdd amount, also if you have recently cvome off Save Online 2 or 3 or Fix Online 8 in the summer, and are now on Energy Online the standard online Eon product, you could be on a cheaper Eon deal, so there are a number of factors affecting the increase, I ap[preciate the way you feel at a large increase, butthere are ways it can be managed I puposefully over pay, put a reading online the day after they take my direct debit then I know if I've covered consumption as as soon as read submitted get account balance displayed on screen. At the End of November I had £106 in credit and had it refunded with my payment staying the same. Eon csa tried to tell me usual guff about elevated cost at this time of year, that dd should cover winter usage, I advised hime to check my account history, If I'm in debit it's not by much and from my online account I just settle the difference, it does help that when Fix Online 8 ended, as soon as Save Online 9 was available I went on it, at the mo it's save Online 11. If you are not paying Enough over winter with any power company they will up your dd in spring/summer statement, as industry has set the precedent to be in cr over summer, if that credit will not cover projected winter usage with current payment amount may still get an mdd increase in autumn.
  • This haapended to me as well although we had so many billing errors with Eon that I left them in the end. When with Eon I cancelled my direct debit and waited for each bill - then did my own meter reading and telephoned them and they would issue a new bill - always much cheaper than the original bill and I paid it in full. Its a hassle but I felt more confident that I was paying for what I actually used. My water bill also went up even though we were in credit. I guess they just try to estimate what you will use and how much it will cost once the price rises again.
