Buying an engagement ring online

Hi,
My boyfriend of five years and I are planning on getting engaged soon but we are stuck on where to find the perfect ring.
We have been to the usual high street jewellers, Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones etc but to be honest I haven't seen anything that is particularly amazing and good value for money.
I ran a search online tonight and came across a few websites such as diamond-heaven.co.uk and diamondsfactory.co.uk and they seem far cheaper than what you would buy in the shops.
Does anyone have any experience buying a ring online? Your help is much appreciated

I hadn't even considered looking on ebay but I have just had a look and there are some gorgeous ones for sale. What was the name of the jeweler you purchased it from if you don't mind me asking?0

We got mine from Samara James. Amazing service. You get to pick the kind of diamond, clarity, brilliance etc etc. You then get told where the diamond and metal came from. My diamond was from Canada and the platinum was from America. All comes with certification etc and the customer service is second to none.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

Mine was from 77diamonds.com
Excellent service, they called us to say the original diamond we purchased was slightly cloudy because of the strong flourescence, even though we'd chosen a good clarity. They recommended a different diamond for us, which was actually slightly cheaper!
The ring is beautiful and we were able to buy a much better diamond for a lot cheaper than any we'd seen in the shops, including a visit to Hatton Gardens.
You'll need to read up a bit on diamonds before you purchase online. I found this site really helpful- http://www.truthaboutdiamonds.com/Debt at 1/5/09 £21,996 _pale_

I'm really impressed with the Samara James website, I love how you can choose exactly what you want. Thank you for your recommendation0

Brilliant, thank you for the helpful link. We definitely need to do some research into diamonds before buying!0

Mine is from 77diamonds and I got engaged last week. :j
On the website, it said it takes 10 days to make, but we had waited 5 weeks!!! But it's 100% worth it. The diamond is so bing that others think it worth double the price!!!
Wherever you get it from, you really need to make sure the diamond and the ring are right for you. We went down to London to look at their rings before we buy. Your ring is for life, so take your time to get the right one.0
