problems with citroen c4
Hi, we have been having trouble with our 3 year old citroen grande picasso. It started cutting out and the depollution system faulty light came on. Took it to Citroen who diagnosed a faulty egr valve, this was replaced today at a cost of £485.
When we collected the car the mechanic told us that whilst on a test drive the automatic handbrake and eps light came on and when he plugged it into diagnostic machine, it said there was a fault with handbrake. He assured us he had checked the handbrake and there was no fault with it. He suggested taking it for a long drive and the light should go out.
We drove the car and noticed the automatic handbrake was not working (it was not turning itself on and off like it should, we had to manually apply it). We are going to ring Citroen tomorrow, because this has never happened before and is obviously something they have done.
The trouble is we have an mot booked for sat, will it fail because of these warning lights and because we have to manually apply handbrake? and what are the chances of getting this problem fixed for free by Citroen, as I believe it is due to something they have done? We really cant afford another repair, the £485 was a real struggle to raise.

If i recall correctly the C4P handbrake can be either manually operated or set tofull auto.
It's possible the mechanic set it to manual operation to test it, have a look in the handbook it should tell you how to reset the auto function.
Why was the EGR valve chargeable at 3 years old or did they trot the old...its out of warranty now the clocks ticked past the hour....routine, in which case you know who not to buy from next time.0 -
i was thinking the same is it still under dealership warranty? if so shouldnt be charged for that surely?
how many miles on the clock if low mileage then you could contact citroen UK head office and make a complaint, those auto handbrakes are £££'s to sort out if faulty and are maindealer parts although an independant garage could fit them for less labour rates. i think now would be a good time to ask your maindealer how much they charge for extended warranty?

as the warranty you had would cover electrical items if you extend it.
it may not sound very MSE to you to extend the warranty, but if your car starts to suffer expensive electrical item failure it could work out way cheaper to do that rather than pay full dealer prices everytime.0
