Broke up with partner last week so called to take him off my car insurance only to be told it would go up in price and not down if insured only to drive.............that on top of admin fee.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So left him on.....................cheaper for me - stupid or what!!!

These admin fees are rediculous, about time people voted with their feet and stopped using companies who use admin fees to make a profit.

They could also maybe get challenged with the unfair contract terms laws.

The law should be clarified to say for definate any fees in any contractural relationship must accurately reflect the true cost of the service given.

How do you define a fee though? Is the amount my friends company charges to paint your front room a fee or not? He certainly charges more than the cost of a tin of paint and what the painters salary is. Likewise the fee a solicitor charges of £300 an hour is more than the cost to him.

The law on contracts is predominately about penalty charges which revolve around the breach of contract not pre agreed additional services you may choose to use in the future.

Agree however with people voting with their feet

As to the OP - you need to check what status the policy is in - normally you get a discount for having an "insured and partner" setup and as you have broken up this is no longer correct therefore the policy must be changed to remain valid. It may be cheaper to keep it as an insured plus named driver but undoubtably your insurers will still charge the admin fee for changing it from insured and partner/ spouse

I'm sure those more learned than myself can come up with a wording to make

    Admin fees/fines like

    Non payment of gas bill
penalty for refusing to use Direct Debit
change of car or address or issue of greencard/notice of driving abroad etc on insurance policies
    restocking fee for returned items
    postage + packing fees
    etc
etc have to reflect the actual cost and no more.

the fact that he is no longer driving the car has no releavance to the validity of the policy as I am the primary insured on it.

I am annoyed that it costs more to have insured only cover with prudential. that is the point of the vent. It is illogical and as not changing it they are not charging me.
