When I saw the thread title I was so hoping that you were trying to claim brokers fees as illegal

Brokers are cheaper than branches and staff and they have no liability to go with it. As time goes on you are possibly going to see an increase in providers offering even more broker only deals as the costs will be so much cheaper for them that way. Regulation costs money. If the lender does it in house, they have to pay for the lot. If they do it through a broker, the broker takes on that responsibility.
