HELP! Car insurance nightmare.

It makes me laugh. If insurers can talk to each other about fraud and if the DVLA can tell if I have insurance when I buy car tax online, then Direct Line must be able to communicate with Tesco to check this out.
It really rankles with me that they are making me jump through hoops. It's like they are saying they think I'm lying. It's farcical.
OP, I would throw myself on their mercy. Do you still have proof of NCD? If you can prove it still then the fact that they didn't receive it doesn't mean you didn't have it. I'd contact them and speak to a supervisor and throw yourself on their mercy."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
I have only once been asked to forward proof of NCD in the past few years. I change insurers every year and they normally get it direct from my previous insurer.0

I've never had a problem before either, Luci. It seems that Direct Line can't cope with a company that does eDocuments."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

for my van insurance I signed a form, and they contacted the other insurance companyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

You are still fully entitled to claim for your damages, as it is a non fault incident, aslong as you obtained there full details (mainly reg) - i hope it all turns out alright!52 week money challenge £1/13780

MrsX: You can make a claim through the Motor Insurers Bureau. http://www.mib.org.uk/Submit+a+Claim/en/Default.htm
As far as prosecution goes, you can ask your insurer to accept liability because you paid insurance premiums but the company failed to provide cover. I would be surprised if the CPS takes on the case because you plea is not guilty because you purchased insurrance and you can produce the evidence.0 -
The police do have discretion. You may just have to show them the audit trail and allow them to use their discretion.
i.e. show them the renewal documents and certificate and the money coming off your account and then the letter you received today. If they can see that you had every reason to believe that you were covered they are less likely to prosecute. If you can keep the envelope the cancellation letter was sent in as well, that will help as there may be a date mark on it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
