Cheap train tickets to York from London

Looking too get to York for the weekend, since getting my car stolen I need to find another way to get there.

Leaving either Friday evening or Saturday morning and getting back either Monday night or Tuesday. I will be going with a cycle.

Can anyone help as this is the first time I had to deal with trains and bikes.

Thank you.

  • You are leaving it very late to get any sort of good deal - best i can see on East coasts website is £66 going up on sat @ 0730 and returning monday on the last one at 2219 for £66 - though I cant remember if you have to pay for your cycle to be conveyed either.

Best you register with East coast rewards too who give you 100 points to start with then a point for every pound you spend with them which you can then use on your next trip.

Or get an off peak return so your flexible with your times going up sat and back on mon or tuesday @ 86.60. I couldnt find anything that was Grand Central only. but maybe someone else can find you something

  • The Off Peak Return 'Grand Central Only' is £75 Valid on the following services from London KX 07:49,11:23 and 19:18 on the Friday, for the return on Monday or Tuesday it's 10:25,14:05 and 19:10.

from the Grand central Website, no mention of a charge.

You won't have any problems boarding a Grand Central train with a bike, and you can buy the £75 ticket on board.

If you use East Coast, they will INSIST on a cycle reservation, you MUST obtain the reservation and the ticket PRIOR to travel from the ticket office. There is no deadline to book, providing space is available, it can be done immediately before travel, but the queues at King's Cross can be bad so it may be better to book online in advance. The EC website will issue cycle reservations at the time of booking.

If your cycle is foldable and I don't think you need a reservation, unlikely that it is but thought it was worth mentioning
