Could someone give this the once-over please?
1890ish terrace with front 'town garden' 8 paces by 4 paces. Bay takes a lump out of this.
To take up block paving and lower approx 4". (Below damp proof course).
Take down pipe from base of house to front of property.(below ground)
Add branch to downpipe from top of ground floor bay.
Check 1st floor guttering and lead top of bay.
Make paving path to front door.
Cover most of remainder with membrane and gravel.
Infill around propery with gravel. (mentioned 3 tons of gravel??!!)
Clean guttering at rear of property and check level.
Supply and fit airbrick to kitchen offshoot.
Quoted £1250 (hasn't stated if this includes VAT) wants 25% up front.
Nice guys, said "you get the job you pay for"
Does this sound about right?
Also, can the block paving be taken up with little damage and is it worth anything, even to gardeners for paths?

Sounds a bit over the top to me....
I would say max £650 incl VAT and this would be mostly labour.
3 tons gravel approx £150 or £200 depending if its fancy stuff or not.
Few bits guttering brackets £30 air brick £10 membrane £50
1 man 1 day £350
Total £650 approx
Old block paving if laid on bed of sand should come up ok and you could use this for the path to the door.
Why not DIY ??????0 -
Ooo errr........ 4 days work was mentioned!! Skip would be £125 too..
DIY?? Not something I could tackle really........ I might break a nail :rotfl:
I am doing loads of stripping etc and would be prepared to be a mate though;)
Also have floor to be repaired, ceilings to be plastered, cracked back yard wall to be sorted and new garage door in rear yard to be fitted.... so best to (G)et (S)omeone (I)n rather than DIY.
Thanks for your input, I'll wait for the second quote. So hard to know if you are comparing like with like though.0 -
