Neither Churchill nor Canute. He reminds me more of the Milky Bar Kid.
Watched a bit of GO, on a special committee hearing yesterday, there was a young chap of about "20 going on 14" behind him.I am sure they only put him there to give GO some "stature"."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

The thing is Canute did not actually believe that, the famous tale is about proving that he couldn't hold back the tide.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Spin Doctors have been around throughout the ages. A politician just has to be snapped near the sea to be called King Canute. It does not help if they trip and fall in to an in-coming wave.
There is a tide to public opinion. Perhaps it is also is controlled by the relative orientation of the moon.
I think the best strategy for Cameron is to consider fighting them on the beaches but drink them under the table in true Bullingdon club fashion.

Which probably makes Gordon Brown even worse, as evidence would suggest he genuinely did believe his "no more boom and bust mantra".Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? What I want to know is if they are burning the midnight oil "negotiating" to save the world why do they have to a formal banquet to help them on with their deliberations? Whenever we do crisis stuff a few "M&S sarnies" or "Dominos" sufficed.
Oh come on! It's Brussels - Brussels! The food is wonderful. I suppose they must have been given the odd 'tartine au filet Americain' during the course of the night, but you can't be in Belgium without proper food and drink! :beer:0 -
The Belgians deserve some congratulations in setting a world record of 589 days with a caretaker government. Apparently they have just formed a coalition of six political parties.
