Primus - Martin, please stop recommending them

I signed up to Primus a few months ago and it's been a total nightmare.

In that time my home phone has been non-operational for six weeks (and counting), but they will not send an engineer. They have ignored five of the six emails I have sent them, and they have also ignored a formal complaint letter that I sent a few weeks ago. I am now in the long waiting period for the Ombudsman to sort things out.

The one time they did respond to an email, they said that they would call me. I explained that they couldn't call me because the landline that they provide is faulty (and for health reasons I am unable to use a mobile phone). I asked if they would please keep in touch by email - but have not heard back from them since.

I have set up a skype account so I can speak to them. It took three attempts to get through to them and then they hung up on me, saying they couldn't help.

They have also overcharged me, adding on services I did not ask for. They are charging me over £30 a month at the moment for this non existent service and I don't know why. I can't find out as they are ignoring my emails, letters and calls.

I feel utterly helpless. I am disabled and my phone is a lifeline, but I can no longer use it, and am being charged for all this stress and frustration. No-one is listening.

A friend attempted to sign up with them and had a nightmare just trying to do that - they sent engineers without notice and he kept getting phone calls from engineers outside his house when he was at work. The company could not understand emails letting them know when he would be in so that the engineer could come. They ignore all emails and are extremely difficult to get hold of by phone.

So Martin, please stop recommending Primus. It's far preferable to get rubbish customer service from BT and pay for it than be overcharged for a complete lack of phone service and customer service from Primus.

    Unfortunately (but perhaps unsurprisingly), there is no Primus (or New Call Telecom) Company Representative on this forum (AFAIAA).

    It appears trying to get Martin involved is your only hope.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

PRIMUS IS A JOKE!..theyve disconnected my working phoneline,and tried to charge me £60/£80 for reconnection.Ive been told it looks like one of their engineers has deliberately damaged the phone line to my property.ONe of their staff members has either cloned my card details or sold them on..ive had to report my card stolen to stop repeated attempts by someone to remove funds from my account without my consent. despite never giving my permission for a DD to be set up,theyve done it once[which i cancelled]and tried twice more since my card was stopped.I have been advised by my bank that if the attempts to take money from my account continue ill have to close my account and reopen a new one. PRIMUS CUSTOMER SERVICE IS APPALLING,RUDE<ARROGANT<NEVER TELL THE TRUTH and NEVER CALL YOU BACK.PLEASE READ THE FORUMS,ONE PERSON HAS SUCCESSFULLY SUED PRIMUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.THEY CHANGE THEIR COMPANY NAME AND DONT ANSWER COURT PAPERS SENT TO THEIR REGISTERED COMPANY ADDRESS......ALARM BELLS SHOULD BE RINGING!!!!!!!!!!

    Working for a telecoms company, the amount of people i see coming back from Primus is exceptional. the alarming part is the amount of customers also leaving for Primus and how utterly helpless i am at stopping them sometimes!

    And there's no need to sue Martin. If you ask him nicely he will give you a full refund of the money you paid for his advice. Oh wait.....
