British Gas Price Protect 2010

Options
I signed up to British Gas Price Protect 2010 in early 2006. I later moved house in Sept and was told by the guy in their call centre that I could transfer this tarrif to my new residence.

I've just got my first bill and immediately noticed that I am not on this tarrif. I rang their call centre back and was told that the tarrif is NOT transferable to a new house. However, I checked their website. I can't find a copy of the terms of the tarrif, but I could find a press release from 2005 announcing the new price structure - where it said that you COULD transfer the tarrif to a new residence.

Whilst I was trying to sort this out I checked back my old bills from my previous house and found that I had been overcharged for my electricity and gas since I joined BG in Jan 06! This was despite being sent letters through the year from them saying things like "Relax, your bills are frozen until 2010" So I had no reason to suspect I wasn't on the correct tarrif.

I have of course written to BG asking them to rectify it (no response yet).

I was just wondering if others had faced similar problems. Given what a good deal Price Protect 2010 has turned out to be, it seems rather convenient for BG to accidentally put people back on a higher tarrif!

    Welcome to the forum.

I would immediately send a recorded delivery letter to BG and copy it to Energywatch.

If you win your 'case' it looks like you could get a large rebate!

I signed up for this in late 2005 - when did BG stop offering the tariff? Even though I am signed up for paperless billing I still get individual letters(for 4 accounts) telling me that prices are due to rise and it will only cost the average family xx pence per day. These letters are usually accompanied by 4 further letters telling me to relax as my prices are frozen until April 2010!

    Keep us informed please.
  • thanks for the welcome!

I actually signed up for the deal in late 2005 - I should have said that the account was activated in Jan 06.

I have just looked at an old thread on this subject and it appears that this tariff ended at the end of 2005.

Are you sure you joined BG in 2006?

That could explain why you have not been on the tariff; but not the letters telling you to 'relax'.

    Edit - posts crossed!

Yes, you can transfer the tariff when you move house.

I switched to BG for electicity in June 2006 and applied for the Discounted Electricity tariff but they have been charging me at the higher standard rate even though I have a letter from them confirming I should be on the Discounted Electricity tariff.

I have made numerous phone calls and written 3 letters with replies that it will be sorted out but I am still waiting:mad: .

Best of luck. I am now going to complain to Energywatch.
    Regards

Yes it is transferrable, as I work for the company, I can help if needed :)

  • Two months on and this just gets more frustrating...

Despite acknowledging my complaint letter and me making several calls to chase them up, I have still not had this sorted by British Gas. Every representative tells me that I will receive a response "in the next few days" - but surprise surprise it never materialises.

It's driving me mad - can anyone recommend another strategy? Perhaps writing to Energywatch or writing to the MD of British Gas??

It's a fairly simple job to do - the frontline agent simply needs to raise a task on the system (takes lesss than a minute), which is passed on the processing team in India to update.

I'm sure another energywatch complaint can't do BG much harm, they are rolling in them already :)
