Hi,
OH and I want to ski one last time before kids (hopefully!) arrive next year.
We want to go end of Feb for 1 week with
- good snow
- if poss a luxury ish hotel
For 1k all in each
By luxury ish i just mean a pool/sauna etc that doesn't look like its from the 70's!
Really like Italy and would be open to Austria. Am ruling out France and Switxerland due to price.
We're both ok ish skiers - can get down a red if we close our eyes and go! but we're not brilliant/
Any suggestions? It's a minefield out there!

You could look at your preferred UK Airports' websites, look at the flights on the airlines' websites, and do a list of your preferred ski flights and then look at the resorts available for those flights.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Any skiing recomendations?
Yes, don't fall off, don't eat yellow snow, find the missing m and have a good time

Pick a resort where there's snow - only a few days ago some major resorts weren't able to open because there wasn't any snow.
Don't go in February as it's half term throughout Europe and slopes are packed
Go in early March as that is when the snow tends to be deepest, the weather tends to be at it best and you have plenty of daylight.
Find out who goes where from your local airports - and how long the transfer time is to the resort
Check how good the resort is for BEGINNERS - some of the major resorts aren't suitable for people learning to ski
Get some lessons in at your local dry slope
Do some exercise - skiing can take a lot of energy out of you
Pack sun cream.0 -
Ive been skiing a few times , Best resort ive ever been to is Les Orres in the french alps . When we booked up there we had to do it all seperate as for some reason non of the mainstream travel agents had heard of the place . take a look ...

Just realised you have ruled out france oops !0 -
Fair point bob. Bad spelling drives me up the wall, I'm a appalled at myself.
Alan rowell, good advice about March. I always thought that was getting a bit late after one bad experience in Livingo. I've probably made out we're worse than we are - we're both pretty fit and have been 4/5 times.
Jonsyt - I only ruled out France in my head as I thought it was too expensive but will have a little look at what you suggested0 -
How about St Anton / St Christophe? Lots of very flattering blues

How about St Anton / St Christophe? Lots of very flattering blues

I don't think the phrases "Luxury", "St Anton", and "Sub £1K all in" are seen that ofter in the same sentance, unless you're talking £1K per night.
IMHO - A 5 weeker is probably best going to one of the larger French resorts. Lots and lots of cruisy blues, and the occasional red to flatter the ego. In somewhere like Les Arcs for instance you can eat in a different (though expensive) mountain resturant each day, and can make day long pilgrimages to the extremities to put some miles under the skis. Similar places include Meribel/Motteret, Alpe D'Huez or Morzine/Avoriaz. Ski-In-Ski-Out is the norm in France, whereas it's unusual in Austria, Swizerland and Italy.
The cheapest weeks will be mid January, and Early/Mid March. Avoid New Year, and Feburary, as this will be both expensive and packed.
It's the weather and the snow that makes a ski holiday, but unless you can leave it till the last minute, these are variables you can do little to mitigate the against. One of my best holidays was to Austria (Elmau) in April, but I'd never pre-book anything to Austria or Eastern Italy after early March - the snow is too unreliable.
The word Luxury bothers me though. Difficult to describe any package holiday as luxury these days. The carnage at the arrival airport as 20 flights from all over the UK taxi in turn to the end of a bumpy 2 mile long concrete slab which only sees crop dusters the rest of the week. 150 punter jump up and wrap themselves like the Michelin man, spew oult onto the apron and sprint for the port-a-cabin or tent to have their passports stared at by some disgruntled official. The fight to reclaim your bags from the carousel. The wait on the transfer bus because the flight from XYZ is late. It finally lands, but someones luggage has been lost. ARRRGGGGHHHHH.
And don't get me started on the return transfer - starting at oh-my-god thirty. It's something that I reall look forward too all holiday -NOT.
Anyhow - The French snow arrived earlier this week. Booked on Tuesday, and I'm off to Val Thorens for two weeks tomorrow. Self drive :T
Cheers,

www.snowheads.comAnger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0
