Bannatyne's gym, read carefully !!!

I'am a member of bannatynes in chafford hundred.
With my wife we've got account for such a long time. time to cancel it.
But please be carefully when you sign in, because to cancel membership you can do it only after 9 months to be a member , and you have to give them cancellation letter - with three months notice period. And do not forget to take receipt for the letter you have drop. My son gave them cancellation letter which they lost. There is not excuse for nothing, they are only want you money to be paid!!!

But before you will sign in to bannatyne's gym, think really about what you gonna do, because it is not really good gym. Some of facilities are not clean, broken. If some thing was broken we had to wait for at least couple off months, to get bannatyne's to repair it.
Facilities are cleaning only superficial. The worst one, i think is the sauna. So much stinks. Toilets mold, dumps. No antibacterial lamps is well.one of the toilet's seat has been fixed after 1.5 year, drinking water around sauna and steam 2 months...
And the really bed think: They don't care- if you will have locker burgled and your stuff stolen!!! I was left only in shorts... thanks god my son was that day with me and he gave me jacket to get back home. horrible. No even sorry from them!!! Nothing.
my member ship card was founded after month at the back stairs... so if they clean up like that....
At gym in chafford hundred many lockers has been burgled. All stuff gone, wallets, money, cards, bugs, trousers, tracksuits . Everything!!!
so be very carefully before yo sign in to !!!, may be look for another gym or buy staff to exercise at home...

Because you've got issues with trust, due to a lack of bonding with your parents when you were a child.

The OP has posted a warning. There have been plenty other warnings about gyms and their long contracts, notice periods, basically doing everything they can to keep you paying.

Makes for interesting reading, not for the gym side but the facilities side as I was thinking about getting a voucher for one of their treatments with use of the sauna and pool as a Christmas present - don't think I will do that now.
  • Interesting, I've been a member at our local Bannatynes since it opened nearly 7 yrs ago and am thinking of leaving as the pool area just gets more neglected, the steam room is disgusting, stinks and has lots of orange mould. The Sauna's not much better and my husband is constantly moaning at gym equipment breaking and it taking ages to be repaired and they just don't care. Oh and the jacuzzi bleached my dark blue swimsuit a lovely shade of lilac, but they denied responsibility saying all their readings were within regular limits - ok so why have i got a 2 tone swimsuit with the water level clearly bleached out? and I'm not the only one, it happens quite often.
    Used to be so nice.....

    It isn't just Bannatynes.

One of the many reasons I left my Cannons (then Nuffield) gym was facilities and hygiene. Freezing cold changing rooms, mouldy showers, items broken and left for weeks. Regularly ran out of body wash/shower gel. Used to give free towels and frequently there weren't any available.

The deal breaker was when I used to spend a lot of time on the running machines. I was training for a marathon and normally love running outside but ice forced me inside and with runs of 10 to 20 miles to do I was spending a lot of time in the evenings pounding the treadmill.

The cleaners used to come out an HOUR before the gym closed and hoover round me!!!! Then they would wipe all of the other treadmills, get to mine and then sigh like I was in the way.

Health club? Nope not a good way to describe it. Full of noisy rude chavs by the time I left as well. No thanks.
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!
  • I was a member there a few years back. Glad I got out (with no hassles) while the going was good!

This would have been in your contract. Infact most gym contracts are 12 months so since you don't seem to have read it, you should consider yourself lucky in this aspect.

I think that the contract in question was also 12 months. (which as you say, is usually the case).
The OP stated that they could only give a cancellation letter after 9 months and then there was a 3 month notice period which would take it up to the full year.

There is no excuse for the unhygenic conditions or faulty equipment, but the minimum contract term is something that you agreed to when originally signing up.
