CIS INSURERS!!!! . Made me feel like a criminal while making a claim on a tv!!

Options
Hello!
Ive just spent 45 minutes having a " telephone interview" regarding a tv falling from a pine stand!
I was planing to put up my decs up and had a bin bag full of stuff and a couple of pairs of curtain in my arms to move up stairs.I walked past tv opened the door which opens up behind the unit and wham!! telly off. sound ok , picture nill!
...long story short, the "lovely lady " made me repeat ,slowly ,the whole thing TWICE, let alone the two times on the phone to earlier assesers in the week .
This was the best bit .:money: "OK! SO WHAT WAS IN THE BIN BAGS?"....(me )....eh??..erm! just ebay stuff , clothes, belt shoes!" ....."...MMM OK! ...AND WHERE DID ALL THIS STUFF COME FROM?" ... (me) ..eh?? ... out of mine and my sons drawers! ..."OK!.. WHAT DID YOU DO AFTER IT HAPPENED?"...(me) ...erm , sat on the sofa in a rage!
I know she was trying to do her job but, trying to trip me up in someway im sure ! Now I have got to take pictures of everything , get a report done FROM MY OWN TECHNICIAN!!this wont be free! . AND fill in yet another "detailed" report on the night it happened.( im gonna have fun here!!!)
I have a full time out door job ,I work hard , pay everything on time, buy extended warrenties with everthing,( which had run out after 3 years, typical!) , I sponge off nobody , buy only what i can afford, never been in trouble, but feel like ive commited something terrible! I rang the complaints line , and he wasnt interested at all! boo to you CIS!!...:(

  • The interview followed the principles of cognation questioning which is used as a fraud prevention technique. At a high level you ask the same question several times in slightly different ways asking for more detail each time but occasionally throw in spurious questions.

The basic idea is if you are telling the truth you will be able to repeat it consistently, add detail effortlessly but there will be natural gaps in the answer. The former part is obvious how it works, the last part is such that if you are telling the truth you'll hands up say that it was just "stuff" in the bag because you cant remember exactly what was in it. Most liars will in a panic think that if it had really happened they would have remembered and so will make it up and then questions are repeated again and they trip over.

I had one of these last Friday (mine is a tv too) - he said beforehand that he would ask me to tell him what happened from just before the tv being broken to ringing the insurance, and that I'd have to go through it twice. The first time to just go ahead and tell it without interruption, the second that he might intervene and ask me to pause. He would then ask me to clarify certain aspects (where the tv is in regard to the room etc). It is a standard procedure so don't think you're the only one.
  • Thanks :) Oh yes!, I get the principle of the interview now, ...Great tatics if I was in a major big time serial car smasher-into-er lol or an MP fiddling my expences . I know there are many fraudulant claims made now days , and coming close to Christmas i suppose that doesnt look good! Bring back Dave , the old door to door insurance man, to assess the telly! and collect my premiums , just like they good old days, nothing is face to face any more!! Shed be great working for the CIA... oh !! hahahah! ...nearly!! :rotfl:
  • Yes thats excactly, she said im going to listen first , but you could here her typing , then she had to clarify certain bits of the night, asked what i was doing just before, and after , bless !I know shes doing her job , but just made me laugh how interested in my bag of stuff she was !

Glad youre sorted now and a bit calmer.

I think Insideinsurance's explanation was brilliant.

I always say that you hav to have a good memory to be a good liar.
If you are telling the full truth you would be able to recite it time after time after time, because that is exactly what happened.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I did have a brilliant one once with a dodgy car crash, the couple (who both claimed to be in the car at the same time but our PH said there were no passengers) were interviewed separately and then brought together to discuss the results - I just heard the tapes of the result to decide what action to take.

For the general circumstances of the car crash they were fine, almost too fine, they both said they were going at 28 mph (you'd expect at least one to give a "about" type answer and rarely you get the same number) but nothing we could prove anything on.

The interviewer then threw in two curve balls....

    1) Did the accident happen before or after the postbox?
We didn't even know if there was a postbox on the road, it was an intentionally spurious question but both of them gave an answer, one said after because they remember walking back to post a letter whilst their partner talked to our PH which could be why he didnt remember seeing her. The other said definitely before because he remembered thinking that if the accident had happened 100 yards further down the road they may have been pushed into it. It actually turns out there was no post box but given they weren't from the area we wouldn't expect them to have paid it any attention even if there was one.

    2) What was the passenger in your vehicle wearing?
This was 9 months after the accident, we werent expecting them to be able to be very specific if they remembered at all. Yet they both claimed to remember exactly what the passenger was wearing, down to the colour and brand of her knickers! But they disagreed on everything too giving a different reason why the passenger was in the vehicle (which matched their version of what they were wearing).

After just 5 minutes of them being brought together to "discuss" the differences, why wife said she was in the car getting a lift to meet a friend for some shopping hence jeans/ tshirt but husband said she was in the car to meet a business acquaintance hence skirt, blouse & jacket. He turned round to her and said "I told you we shouldn't have lied about you being in the car". Thank you very much, case closed.... didnt take much for them to retract their complete claim.

8 out 10 people say they are happy to defraud insurers.

If you want collections and that level of servicing then expect to pay double in premiums. The insurance agent never handled claims either. However, the sales side often did have some input on the claims side for high value clients.

I think it's fair enough if there is a claim the person claiming should be able to tell the same story twice. Fraud costs us all in the end.

I must be the odd one, Or 100% guilty of everything.

Ask me what day it is and you will get 7 different answers. I love the traffic cop shows
on TV. Where they go he's lying he must have ID on him.

Unless my parter's in the car i dont carry ID, money or anything. Its all in her bag.

If i get stopped i will just tell them lock me up and throw the key away. Ive seen the TV shows
    and i must be guilty.
