Swift cover - giving out personal details to spam callers?

Ever since joining swift cover in October I have received on average 5 bogus sales texts from blocked numbers, in addition to automated calls from Vietnam and 0800 numbers.
Has anyone else experienced this? Its getting rather frustrating...
Thanks
Chris

Been getting hundreds for years from all sorts of sources.
If you dont want cold callers then sign up to the Telephone Preference Service0 -
excellent, thanks.
TPS cant block texts though unfortunately...0 -
I signed up for a free 0870 number a few years back after getting tons of calls from doing online
ar insurance comparisons. Strange nobody ever called me back on the 0870 number.
They stopped the service when BT offered free 0870 calls.
I think you can get 0871 numbers now for free. Give the number out to everyone. You earn a few coppers
if someone calls you.
I now keep an old mobile handy, Its got £1.94 worth of credit. I charge it up and make a couple of calls to
it every now and then to keep it active. If im in the mood i answer it, If not i ignore or switch it off.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
They don't always block cold callers - and if you do complain you have to give all your details to the offending cold calling company (not given to doing that myself)
The TPS keeps a list of numbers which the call centre system should check before cold calling. But if the company isn't signed up to the code of conduct or is outside the UK....
What is annoying is some companies when you ask for a quote on a web site don't give you the option of opting out of marketing calls and the small print says 'we will share your details with other companies in the group'. Who reads web site small print before getting a quote?
Warranty direct and saga are 2 who used to do it so I always use an old phone number now or a mobile as suggested above.
I am signed up to TPS and if I do get a cold call I usually ask 'Where did you get this number from' which usually stops them in their tracks.0 -

What evidence do you have that lets you know it is swiftcover?
My youngest daughter has a mobile phone and has never disclosed it anywhere. It is effectively for emergency and keeping in contact. Yet she got a spam call the other day telling her she was entitled for £3000 for PPI she paid on a loan.
There are many ways to get on these lists. The calls you are suffering are unlikely to have come from data you gave swiftcover.
Did you use a comparison site? They are notorious for passing data on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Yes - It could well be the comparison site.
'moneysupermarket'
Without giving them a mobile, (I dont have a landline, and I tried a fake one) its impossible to get your policy approved.
I googled the mobile numbers and texts that I received and several forums popped up with claims that they were known spammers resulted from the comparison site/insurance company - it is how they manage to get their premiums so low I assume.
Like your daughter, ive never given out my phone number naively, and ive had the same number for over 10 years now.
It is definitely these sites giving out your mobile, but you cant get the policy without it. Incredibly frustrating.0
