Switching supplier, what a hassle!
I've been going through the process of switching my mother-in-laws energy supplier and four months on, it still isn't sorted, what a nightmare!
The gas is now fine, but electricity isn't.
Who is ultimately responsible for communicating with who in terms of providers; is it the previous supplier that needs to give details to the new supplier for serial numbers and meter reads, or do the new supplier have to request it?
The trouble is that when the new supplier confirmed the transfer of supply date, we tried to submit a meter reading to them but it wouldn't work due to technical errors, and we couldn't submit to the previous supplier because they had closed the account.
The new supplier have since had a meter reader man out (3 months after the transfer date) and some how that number has been passed to the previous supplier who have used it as the transfer date reading, landing us with a huge bill from the previous supplier, yet still no bill from the new supplier!
Anyone else had similar problems? Appreciate I've only given the short story!!!

Sorry to say I've switched quite a few times now and never had any problems, always gone smoothly and moved to new supplier without any delays.
Have you spoken to the new supplier as its normally in their interest to sort it to get you as a customer?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I did experience very similar a year ago switching my mother from British Gas to edf.
Was what you were charged on the old supplier's tariff higher than what you would have been charged on the new? If the answer is no, you are quids in, dont fuss. If the answer is yes, insist on using your readings for the transfer date and that both old and new supplier use them. The old supplier will refund you the excess.
These disputes are quite common and as you did try to supply the correct readings you have a clearcut case.
Who are the suppliers in question?0
