Advice from savvy London Tube users?
Options
Not sure if correct board but here goes. A group of 8 of us have booked a show and Travelodge on a saturday in Feb. Previously we have travelled from the Northwest by train. However, this time, the train tickets are very expensive. 2 of the group have company cars and wouldn't have to pay petrol costs and have offered to drive if we can park somewhere relatively cheap and take the tube to the Covent Garden area where we are staying. Does anyone know if there is a tube station on the outskirts where we could do this? Preferably north of the city.

There's plenty on the outskirts of the city, where you can street park for free. I used to do it all the time, however I came in from the West (because that's the part of London I knew because I'd lived there previously).
I'm not familiar with North London, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who is. Have looked at a tube map and a road map with an idea roughly of which part of London you would be arriving at (to park)?0 -
Same story different date : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3546087 - just get off a couple of stops sooner at Leicester Square0

yes plenty of roads in north london. But since the council started controlled parking, it is becoming more and more difficult - need to get someone to PM you a road which there is no controlled parking. Expect it to be about 10 mins walk to the station.0

Hendon Central is near the M1(Junction 2) and has free on street parking except from 11-12 Mon-Fri. It is 30 minutes from Leicester Square and an OK part of town!0

Where is your travelodge then? And also what dates are you travelling and where from as we may be able to get the ticket prices for you down a little too."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

Looks like its Hendon then. I wasn't really set on free parking, don't mind a car park if it's reasonable and safe. We are staying in the Coventry Garden travelodge so will have to get the tube even if we went by train to Ruston. I'll have a scout at the tube map tonight.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

most areas in hendon has CPZ - between 11 and 12 for resident only. Which means you can't park there all the time.
but if you drive around the area, you may find a place which does not have CPZ0 -
There is a road called Westpole Avenue, Cockfosters where part of the street has no parking restrictions. It is easily within 10 minutes of Oakwood Underground Station which is on the Piccadilly Line. This will take you direct to Covent Garden."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I was going to say something similar. OP is likely to be coming down the A1 so it's good for Cockfosters or Oakwood on the Piccadilly. Allow an hour to get to Covent Garden from there. Can I help?0 -

Yes, very easy to access. Come off the M25 at junction 24 (Potters Bar) and head towards Cockfosters, which is about 2 miles down the road. Westpole Avenue is on the left just after passing Cockfosters Underground Station and about halfway down the OP will be able to see the unrestricted parts of the street. Some parts of Westpole Avenue are subject to restrictions though."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
