  • I'm not sure what Tesco offers that is particularly unique or special. In my experience Morrisons is consistently cheaper for branded goods and has a great instore bakery. Asda has the cheap and cheerful George clothing range. Aldi and Lidl are for the price conscious bulk shoppers. Sainsburys is for the middle classes who can't afford Waitrose. Waitrose is Waitrose. What is the point of Tesco?
    They are an EYESORES!!!!

o.9% is nothing to worry about in the current climate...
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Discount German chain Aldi benefited from the squeeze on spending and saw its sales increase by 25.6pc during the quarter compared with a year ago, pushing its market share up from 2.9pc to 3.5pc.

Lidl saw a 12.6pc rise in sales and made a modest gain in the market from 2.4pc to 2.5pc.

Well if there's 3 people in the store instead of 2, I suppose that would account for a near 30% rise in sales. :D

I'm less concerned for Tesco and the other big supermarkets as I am for their suppliers.

A lot of those BOGOF deals you see are the supermarkets pushing back on their suppliers. Making money on staple goods like milk is precarious for many suppliers.

Tesco and their like will use serious leverage to protect their margins.

Being the spendthrift that I am, I've also switched to Sainsbury's as they give me a £3 off £20 spend voucher every time I go in now and I haven't had a voucher from Tesco's in ages. Every little helps :p.
  • Supermarket giant Tesco has announced that its UK sales fell 0.9% for the past 13 weeks.
With all the clout Tesco has in the economy, this is now further confirmation that the UK will be officially heading back into recession.

I bet Tesco value will be selling more and Tesco taste the difference will be selling less going forward.

Another good indicator of where the UK is going is asking a wide variety of people you meet is the global financial crisis affecting the field in which you work? I have been asking and 100% of people I have asked have said yes. The only ones who said in a positive way was a chap who sells gold and silver bullion ;)
