Supermarket giant Tesco has announced that its UK sales fell 0.9% for the past 13 weeks. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16082049
With all the clout Tesco has in the economy, this is now further confirmation that the UK will be officially heading back into recession.

Well that accounts for 0.1% of the drop in sales Graham, but I don't know where the other 0.8% comes from.

LIDL & ALDI.
And cut throat competition in non-food, which has driven growth in recent years.:money: :money: :money: :money: :money: :money:0 -

I wish they would stop giving 25% off wine! I'm trying to cut down on my drinking, but I always stock up when they do there periodical 25% off offer. Which means I have plenty wine in the house, some nights I really need that barrier of having to go and buy it, to encourage me not to drink that particularly evening. The fridge or wine rack is just far too convenient.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Surprised. I'd have had you down as a wine cellar man.

I think this is probably correct, food sales are up, only non-food is down. Tesco were ahead of the game in getting in to non-food but the other big supermarkets, especially Sainsburys are now catching up hence Tesco's share of non-food supermarket is being pegged back to its overall market share rather than the above share performance.Buy_It_Now wrote: »LIDL & ALDI.

I don't know about that Michaels. Every time I have been into a Lidl or Aldi's there is usually only myself and one other person in there. And they normally only have one member of staff on who both stocks the shelves and operates the till.0 -

I cant comment on Lidl. But aldi is run with skilled motivated staff who can do their jobs. Hence they pay well.
Sort of an anti-tesco, who only seam to employ people who cant do the job.0 -

Nope, I'm no wine expert I just know what I like and it's usually only £6-£9 a bottle (although with sainsbury's offers that reduces further).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Discount German chain Aldi benefited from the squeeze on spending and saw its sales increase by 25.6pc during the quarter compared with a year ago, pushing its market share up from 2.9pc to 3.5pc.
Lidl saw a 12.6pc rise in sales and made a modest gain in the market from 2.4pc to 2.5pc.
