Stat Hol Ded?

On my payslip, under "earnings" it has my hours worked and the total, then it says stat hol ded (under earnings) with a minus figure
it also has NI and tax on there so it can't be either of those
thought I'd ask on here first
also, if I don't use up my holidays for this year, will they pay me the money or do I just lose them?

That depends entirely on your contract of employment.
My company has a "use it or lose it" policy, which is generally what has been done everywhere else I've worked.
Some companies may reimburse in cash and some may (rarely) let you carry your allowance through to the next year, but the only way you will know is to check your contract.0 -
You are allowed to carry over up to 1.6 weeks of your minimum entitlement with your employers agreement, if they wont allow you to carry them over then you will lose them, it is illegal for your employer to buy any of your minimum entitlement from you.
Any leave you get over and above the minimum is between you and your employer.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Have you taken any holidays since last pay day? stat hols ded looks like an adjustment of you entitlement due to taking some time off, eg (statutary holiday deduction) -3, meaning 3 days taken.
Just a thought but i could be miles off the mark.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
thanks for the replies everyone
john, I haven't taken any time off work at all (only been there for just over a month)
it doesn't say -(so many units) just -(amount)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Were you informed that your hourly rate of pay included an element of holiday pay?
Because this sounds like 'rolled up' holiday pay, which means that the deduction is put aside for when you take holidays.
Rolled up holiday pay has been kind of unlawful for years. I say 'kind of' because, as long as they cough up the pay when you take holidays, there don't appear to be any negative consequences to deter employers from continuing the practice.0
