Petite Clothing shopping ideas

Hi,

i have seen a few threads on here about plus size clothing but haven't seen one for petite clothing and have been gonna put a thread up for a while to see if anyone has any ideas about shopping for petite clothing.

I am only 5ft with a 27 inch inside leg, so shops as next, wallis and debenhams petite clothing are too long for me, and a bit on the pricey side. i did used to buy my trousers etc from either DP's or asda as their petites do fit really well, but DP's range isn't very good for me any more, and then Asda have gone and stopped doing their petite range!!! I was in a large Asda living store a few weeks ago and asked one of the the store assistants for the petite range and she told me that they had stopped doing it. I asked if it wasn't selling and was that why they had stopped it and she told me it was as popular as it had always been, she herself bought stuff from it, but they have just stopped selling petite stuff. I did like their clothes as fit well and cheap enough but now I'm stuck with even more limits on where I can get clothes.

i have looked at Very, littlewoods etc but I'm not overly keen on their selection of the smart work trousers.

does anyone know of any other decent petite shops, websites etc?

Thanks

Wuzz

The only thing I can suggest is to try the teenage range.

Im little too and always have to take at least 6 inches off trouser bottoms.

Have you looked at Sainsburys, I got some decent size 8 in 'short' they fitted me perfectly.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Next have a petite range that will fit you (says someone who also has a 27" inside leg!)

Does your local debenhams have a personal shopper? It's worth a go to see which shops work for you and which don't (then hunt in the sales!)

Though I have trousers to wear with flats and trousers to wear with heels!

I know some of the shops I go to aren't very cheap, but the clothes wear well so I don't mind paying the extra.

I'm not a petite lady myself, but I know someone who is and I always keep an eye out.
Can't comment on length and fit though, sorry.

    Here's some links:
http://www.minuet-petite.co.uk/sale2.php (pricey, but they have a sale on)

Landsend: good sale one, not great for trousers, but good for winter jackets/coats. You need to look in three places to find stuff, clearance, offers and the main menu.

Thanks for all of your idea's. I did used to buy kids clothes then I put a bit of weight on so my backside was too big for them, but I've lost a bit of weight now so might have to trawl the kids departments. I've has a few stuff from next but i've had to have some of them taken up, and although it may sound tight, I don't want to pay a lot of monay and then have to pay to get them altered as well, but I'll keep on searching. Was really gutted when i found out Asda had stopped their range as fit perfect and cheap.

    Thanks again.

I think some one has already posted it but ASOS does a petite range.

I've got the short leg problem too, and petite trousers are too long for me normally. I loved it when 3/4 Length were in fashion as they seemed to fit perfectly.

Ha! That so strikes a cord with me. When I was young and skinny I used to get my clothes from Tammy girl with the bonus that you don't have to pay tax for kids clothes.

Sadly teenage clobber doesn't cover my chest and backside size & nowadays I really need to shed some weight.

I know what you mean about getting stuff altered, near where I work there is a boutique shop that isn't as expensive as it looks and will alter for free on non sale items, but trousers I generally always need petite or they can look odd.
  • Hi

Im 4 ft 11 and a half and think I must be about about a 27 inside leg, I have recently got trousers in sainsburys and matalan and find they both fit very well for length. I have also got jeans from new look (I think they are 28 inch leg) and they fit me fine. I find if I want somethign for heels that dps short range (not the petite) is good. Also have your tried bhs- Ive got some nice work trousers from the in the past.

My edit didn't work, but yes I used to wear kids clothing, but my hips are too big now :-(

I have spent a long time wearing clothes that "nearly fit", now I do pay a touch more and feel fab in it. I also make sure I have trousers to wear with different heights of heels!!

Another thing is look in shops and see if you can get it slightly cheaper on ebay.

If you buy regular straight leg trousers, they can easily be taken up as the the trouser leg is the same width all the way down. Bootcut for example, won't look right if you take them up. I sometimes do this.

Uniqlo offer free alterations if you have one near you. I bought some lovely skinny cargo trousers and they altered them for free!!!!
