it's unfortunate but you don't have a choice.
the only people under 35 that will be able to get the 1 bed rate are those with disabilities.

the only way to get the type of property you want, is to pay for it yourself.

there is nothing to stop you getting a 1 bed place, but you would only get the shared house rate and have to make the shortfall up from your JSA.
  • ok thank you i will have to work it out see how much, cos at the moment i have to pay a catalogue bill as well

But surely you dont expect the tax payer to pay your catalogue bill?

A person receiving JSA can spend it anyway they wish...?!

The way I interpret the OPs comment is that she's not sure she can afford to pay a top-up between the rent and her LHA from her existing benefits because of that debt.

If you share a flat or house you are far more likely to be able to afford the rent when you get a job.
  • Thats why im on JSA for to look for work init
  • Looks like i will have to go back to square one and go back to my parents and be a 'carer' again rather then get on with my own life. I had to leave cos i couldnt watch my 70 odd yr old dad running around for my perfectly fine 33 yr old brother and my mum. Thats why i had to leave in the first plae cos i wasn't getting anywhere or thinking of myself. So while im there i will have to wait see what the LHA is going to be like in the new year.

You don't need to 'wait and see' what the LHA changes will be in the new year. You are already able to verify the future housing benefit you will be entitled to now. It should be a simple matter for you to identify the shared rate of LHA on the local council website, for example, or the Direct Gov LHA webpages.
