First time driver car insurance?

Is everywhere so expensive? My cheapest quote is just shy of £1900.
I've looked at all the cheap cars to insure. The cheapest being a Ka.
I've done my pass plus but that doesn't help either.
I put my dad as a named driver and it went up!!
Any tips/advice anyone?

I'm in process of insuring car for 17yr old. Cheapest is co-op young drivers policy at about £1200. Thats with parent as main driver and son as additional. Read small print though because they fit a tracker and has conditions attached. I think we'll go for it as it is by far the cheapest. Also keep tweeking the quote as they seem to keep changing.0

that is great as long as the parent IS the main driver, otherwise it is classed as fronting. My stepson tried this and within a couple of months the insurance twigged (his mother, who he put down as main driver, had her own car and policy) has had to get a new policy for £3k+ and chances are his mother may have issues getting insurance in the future as the policy was in her name and they cancelled it.0 -
Add both parents to policy, sometimes parking on street reduces policy, choose the highest excess possible(risky but worth it), and try elephant insuranceThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

OP - I certainly hope that you are the main driver. If you are not the tracker will be the least of your worries when the co-op find out you are fronting the policy and committing fraud! Just be aware that when they do find out they will ask for all of the additional premium, probably cancel the policy and if there is an accident they might even pursue you as the policyholder for their outlay.0 -

I'd also be interested to know if the NCD is being used on another vehicle.0
