How far in advance of my contract end date can I switch from EDF without penalty?

Baron,
Excellent strategy. Good luck.:)0 -
I can't post the URL as I am too new to the forum, but if you go to the homepage and look under the MSE News Feeds there is an article on Energy Customer complaints and guess who is grabbing the headline, yes it's EDF!
BTW, it will probably be of no surprise to anyone to learn that I haven't heard anything back from them yet.0 -
Well I have gone for it too and changed a moment ago to Scottish Power with Uswitch's £80 cashback it was the cheapest option for me. Now let's hope it goes through quickly but just in the New Year so that I don't have to pay EDF's standard rate for too long. Rest assured if EDF try to charge me an early termination fee I shall complain very loudly and clearly.0

I'm in the same situation and looking to switch.
In Nov I got a letter from EDF notifying me of the transfer to the standard tariff. At the end of the letter it says:What if I want to switch?
To switch, call us free on xxxxxx by 1 Jan 2012. We will then continue to apply you existing prices until the date you transfer provided you new supplier contacts us within 15 working days of you notification. If you have outstanding charges blah blah......
So it seems the best way to do this is to wait until the last minute, switch and notify EDF.
Only question is, is it common for the new supplier to contact the old within 15 days? I'm looking at Scottish..."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
Ok I can confirm the above is true.
I started my transfer last week and just rang EDF to tell them I am leaving and would like my prices help until I leave and the CS advisor confirmed this would be added on my account.
Obviously until it happens I wont believe it
And I will still be taking another reading on the 31st December just in case the prices do go up :cool:0 -
Roll on smart metering hey guys! In principal all of their excuses for delay, complex and unwieldy processes etc. should in theory go away!0

Good information. Thanks for that. I will call them next week to let them know I'm leaving. Should have left it a while longer though and got more of the OS7 tariff.0
