travel insurance HELP! American Airlines tickets :-(

Hiall,

I am getting desparate now as I seem to be wasting too much time trying to purchase Travel insurance and not getting anywhere! Yes I am one of those people that booked with American Airlines (to fly to the Caribbean in just over a week, 2 stop offs in USA) and hadnt had a chance to purchase Insurance. I understand that my flights should be covered and that is a relief, however I am having trouble finding an insurer that will even take me just for cover for say medical, lost baggage, adverse weather conditions etc. I know I wouldnt be covered for finiancial cover and accept this but surely I can still be covered for other events?!

I am a healthy 40 year old looking for cover to include:
Adverse weather conditions (volcanic ash. tsunami, earthwake etc) to include moving from the island, accomodation etc.
Strike's
Terrorism cover

Churchill didnt have any idea what they covered!
Barclays wont go near me due to chapter 11 with A.Airlines
Biba kept me waiting for ages so gave up.

Have been slowly working through the which list however my eyes are now going funny reading all the small print with each individual policy.

Can ANYONE advise please :-(
Thankyou!

  • John Lewis' offering used to be reasonable so possibly worth looking at.... not promoting or recommending them
  • After an exhausting day reading many policies (and the find print) AND trying to sort through ESTA visa waiver programme I finally booked through JLT insurance who I have to say were pretty fantastic, answered all my questions, rang me back a few times to check other questions, were patient, understanding and helpful. Their customer care was what convinced me to go with them. That and their comprehensive cover policy. No-one will obviously insure for finiancial cover for the flights due it being known about chapter 11 but apart from that I think I have a pretty thorough all-in-one policy. (There werent any add-ons). Which pointed me in the right direction and JLT came up high for this type of cover. Hope this helps. If anyone needs further advice I am very happy to help as I know how difficult it can be. (Goodness me...I really need that holiday!) :-)
  • P.s. JLT wrote me an email to confim the policy and what it did and did not cover (secion 17, page 20) before I booked. A HUGE thankyou to Naomi!
