Wiring for Light pull switch
Comments

I fitted the new switch yesterday but still have a problem.
The fan switches on and off ok but the light stays on all the time. I have checked the terminals and all the connections seem to be alright.
Can anyone help?0 -
You have the light wire connected to the permanent live. The easiest way to determine which one is the light wire is by firstly disconnecting the fuse for the lighting circuit and removing one wire and turning the switch on and off with the main fuse back on.
Each time you remove a different wire and reconnect the one you disconnected previously, you should find in one configuration that the fan works and the light is off. The wire that is removed is for the light. This needs to go on the other side of the switch.
Be careful when you do this as the wire that you leave disconnected may be live at any point. To be safe, wrap the wire end in some insulation tape before switching the main fuse back on.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

Many many thanks:beer: It's easy when you know how:j
Everything now is working ok.
Thanks again for everyone's help.0 -
You should mark the fan and light switched-live wires with some tape. This is now a requirement for new installations. You may also want to label the fan and light wires.
It will also help anyone in the future!
In the example below, the switched live wire is marked with some brown cable insulation:

with the mains switched off, a multimeter can be used to find the correct switched live wires. (the switch cable).
once youve found those and marked them, the rest is pretty easy.
ps.
the dangerous way is to use a 240v tester. with a helper operating the light switch.
(you didnt hear it from me).Get some gorm.0
