I told her this, and she took ticket number 6 out of her pocket and said "You better have this then. Another 10 minutes and I could have had it". Very decent of her.
I don't think that's very decent of her at all. What's the point in having these 'deals' if the staff are going to nab them first?! I would have complained to the manager about it, although they were probably in on it too.0 -
Does anyone know of a phone number on the off chance thee might be some left around central scotland.0

I have just filled a bottle up with some whiskey coloured liquid and put an unbranded label on it but it does say it is 40 years old and I only want £30 for it,it is worth 5 times that.
Any takers?

Welshwoofs wrote: »Sorry but this thread had me abosolutely hooting with laughter. Just because a bottle of whisky is 40yrs old, it doesn't necessarily mean it's any good! The fact that this is a totally invented name for marketing purposes and NOT the name of a distillery tells you something. Had this been a high quality 40yr old you can bet the distillery would be selling it under its own name. The whisky tasting blogs who've had this over-hyped Aldi stuff have said it's ok, but not £300 worth by any stretch. Aldi are probably counting on people who don't get one of the few bottles to buy their other offering - the 24yr old which has been universally panned as a bloody bad whisky. To put it into perspective, I have a £300 30yr old bottle of Highland Park...it's £300 because it's from a respected distillery, it's not rebranded and it has acres of tasting notes to attest to the quality.
Seriously, for £50 you can buy a nice 12yr old Isley malt (Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Bowmore, Lagavulin etc) if you like them heavy and peaty or a lovely Springbank, Macallan, Cardu etc if you like them lighter.
A bargain is only a bargain if the thing you're buying is actually worth the RRP.....this Aldi one ain't.
I totally agree
I certainly won't be trying to get hold of a bottle of donkey p*ss or whatever it is?
my husband inherited a bottle of 1963 Macallan, still in it's box from his late grandparents . Our friends who are whisky drinkers say drink it because you will never afford to drink whisky like that again . non whisky drinkers are saying sell it on ebay . personally I have had all kinds of problems on ebay lately and would not want to sell via that route . whisky specialists in london offered £400 ish for it , so I figure it is probably worth a lot more than that! for now it sits in a locked cupboard until we decide

I was there too! Was your mum buying it as a present? I was the guy first in the queue looking freezing! My mum went to our local in Chester at 6:45. She was 4th in the queue and the manager came out and said there were 5 bottles available and he would leave them at the tills for the first five. She got one
