I'm glad I stumbled across this thread.

I am due to renew my car ins and were half thinking of going with one call. I def won't bother now.

No wonder they offer cheap insurance, it's being offset by existing customers :(
Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £2000
  • Sounds like one company to avoid. Thanks.

I recently moved to an area where car ins is cheaper than my previous address. I changed my address online then rang to find out how much cheaper my car ins would now be ( thinking of upgrading). I'm told that they charge £50 to change address, and that my payments will remain the same until the policy renewal in September! So I thought I'd better cancel and take out a new policy - well if I cancel they will take the rest of the payments due until September.
Also if your car is wrote off - they take the rest of the years payments from your payout to replace your car - This is the worst car insurance company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with - and I'm 60 years young so have dealt with many - The words "DON'T TOUCH" and "BARGE POLE" come to mind - plus some like PIRATES BANDITS ROGUE TRADERS - Its not the car thieves we need to worry about - its those who are supposed to be providing protection against them who are robbing us the most.- NO WONDER THERE ARE SO MAY UNINSURED DRIVERS ABOUT - ITS CHEAPER TO LOSE YOUR CAR THAN PAY MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR EVERY YEAR - AND BE CHARGED TO GIVE THEM INFORMATION THAT THEY REQUIRE. - UNLESS YOU ARE SUICIDAL AND NEED MOTIVATION I'D STAY WELL CLEAR OF ONECALL

It may be that what you have paid so far does not cover the amount the want for the insurance. Some companies do not give a refund after you have had the policy for 7-9 months (company dependant). So if you are paying on DD you may owe the full year this is quite normal for insurance.

I don't quite understand the second part about the fact they take the rest of the payments to replace your car. All I know is if you claim on an insurance policy even if you cancel you must pay the full amount still as you have used the cover provided. Maybe this is what they meant? Again this is an industry standard

I am with Onecall home insurance which is just ending and I will not be renewing.

Their admin costs are excessive to say the least. £25 admin renewal!
    20% of my new premium!

How on earth does it cost that? They have all my details, they even state they will just use existing details for renewal, they describe it as 'auto renewal!' It's all done automatically and online.

I wasn't charged any admin fee when first going to them last year.

Admin should be in their costs anyway, costs which are in the price when offering a competitive quote.

Admin is part of what they do, why am I being charged this seperately!!?

I just change every year and avoid all this crap as no new company would have the nerve to do this...until the 2nd year!
