Suggestions wanted - how to clean a walk in shower floor

Hi,
I'm having problems keeping our shower floor clean and am looking for low cost suggestions.

The shower is a walk-in one, with doors which swing open to allow easy access. The surface is non-slip.

The problem is, dust etc clings to the non-slip surface.
I can't put a plug in and soak it in water as it's not deep enough - it would flood the floor.
Cloths get caught on the surface instead of cleaning it.

Due to my own health problems, it's very difficult to kneel or bend, and I also get tired easily. So I try to do any cleaning "little and often".

Any suggestions?

I wonder if a mop might be worth a try? Maybe even a steam mop.

How about using a small nylon-bristled broom?

Spray with bleach then use a scrubbing brush with bristles such as

I use a Vileda Bath Magic Mop. Basically it's a reversible sponge/scourer on the end of a swivel telescopic handle, and it's shaped at the ends so it gets into corners. I think I paid around £8 for it, and spare pads are available. I got it from Asda and it's one of the best things I have ever bought. If you google it you will get info and pics.

If it is a vinyl safety floor, DO NOT use bleach, it will shrink the vinyl and cause it to become brittle.
Use a stiff brush and wet the floor, add some neat washing up liquid direct to the floor, then scrub with the brush, rinse and push it down the drain.

I use cilit bang on ours. It cuts through the soapy/scummy layer well. Spray it, leave it a few minutes and then wipe/rinse off. Flash may also be worth a try.

I would be carefull using a nylon brush unless itis fairly soft. It may scratch the surface and make matters worse.

a foam spray rinsed afterwards will be fine
the lino used on disabled shower floors is pretty forgiving

they say the shiny sparkles in it contain lead
    that is not true

get a back scrubber from the pound shop to invigorate
    areas

Thanks for the replies! You've given me lots of ideas to try.

Vax2002, I'm not sure but it could be a vinyl safety floor. It was made to measure, put into place then left overnight with a heavy weight on it.
It doesn't get slippery even with water running.

Obviously I want to keep it clean, but I don't want to do anything to damage the surface.

  • i have one of the "bobbly" kind and the only way i have found is a scrubbing brush and hot water and a bit of soapy stuff
does anyone clean these with a steam cleaner please? (i can't afford one at the moment but i think it might work better, they really are hard to keep clean, mine is a "wet room")
