Baked Beans!

Now I'm a Branston guy & always pay around the £1 mark for 4 and always get enough to last me till the next 4 for a £1 deal. However of late these deals have been few and far between so in desperation I tried another variety Aldi Corale beans for 28p as I think Which gave them a good write up! Well ladies and gentlemen avoid like the plague these have to be the worst Baked Beans I've ever had even worse then Heinz & that's saying something! I hear they've just recently changed the recipe too, why is it when ever they change recipe it's always for the worst!

So lesson learnt for me & I will never cheat on Branston again & if need be I'll pay the few extra pence because Branston is the best & no other brand comes remotely close!:T

Well there you go, perfect example of how sticking to brand names is going to cost you more. The moral is buy shed loads when they are on special offer, or get used to a cheaper supermarket own brand. Personally I find Mr T Value beans perfectly acceptable :D

  • Each to their own I guess but when Branston is on offer it works out cheaper then the supermarket budget brands.:D

It's a matter of personal taste though. We have the Aldi ones all the time and they seem perfectly good to me. I've not noticed any recipe change myself. Since they changed the recipe of their Tomato Ketchup though, it's been truly dire.

I find Aldi Corale beans really sweet & the sauce quite thin & the beans themselves are really hard. Guess it is just personal taste ;)

I use to love Aldi beans (but this was 10 years ago) I remember them being 8p! Well less during the baked bean price war when they were 1p a tin!

I'm a Heinz or basics own brand (from Asda/Tesco or Sainsburys) kind of person. Although I rarely have beans much these days.
  • Branston are on offer in the Co-Op near me for £1.39 for 4 at present. I know it's more than the £1 you usually pay but if your despirate for your fix then it may be worth checking out.

If you always stick to a particular brand, then of course alternatives will taste 'weird' and 'wrong' - they're different!

It doesn't make them better or worse, just not what you're used to or what you prefer.

I've never had a preferred brand of baked bean - I pay no attention and honestly couldn't tell you which one I had last. I don't have them particularly frequently, and when I do I usually stir in some mustard or brown sauce anyway.
