Best energy light bulbs?

The electricity bills are too high. I will start by replacing the bulbs.

What are the best?

Most of our light fixings have the push and twist mechanism. Do I need to replace these leads?

No, you just replace the bulbs.

Don't go with CFL. LED's are the way forward!

LED lights are still evolving, and very expensive for any quality of light.
CFLs tend to have to warm up before full light is given, but do use a lot less electricity and are affordable. They will fit in a standard bulb socket, but most are not dimmable.

    Edit:
They will reduce your electricity bill, but probably not by a huge amount. Say each 60W bulb is replaced by an 8W CFL. Multiply the 42W saving by the number of hours a week or year the light is on and divide by 1000 to get kWh saved. That gives you a figure you can put a cost against.

You'll save more money by only filling your electric kettle for your immediate needs.
When cooking on the hob only use enough water to cover your vegatables, same applies when taking a bath.

Replace your light bulbs as they fail.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
