Tax credits on your income so far this year? possible?

I'm trying to get my head around working tax credits.
No children and me employed but long term sick and on SSP for 28weeks since end of April, now nothing, no ESA but on DLA, him employed and working 40hrs a week.
If I put our details through the calculator thing it asks for last years incomes, which obviously throws up that as I was working full time and he was too, that we are only entitled to £40 for the rest of the year.
Is it not possible for them to do it on this years details?

When you apply, it will be decided based on previous year income as the calculator suggests.
Once you get your first award notice, you can ring up and ask them to change it to be based on an estimate of income for this year. If that estimate is lower than last years income your tax credits will increase going forward (with any retrospective increase in entitlement saved until the end of the year).
One word of warning is that if your estimate turns out to be too low, you will have an overpayment when they confirm your actual income for 2011-2012.

you can make a claim using your current details.
you would need an annual income for this year ( april 11 - april12) of around 18k to get wtc as a couple.
but any sick pay would be classed as income and not just your partners wages.0
