Can you get cheap one way flights?

I noticed that on BritishAirways.com, a fare from London-Dublin was £14 plus tax (if you selected return) but if I chose single it went up to £540!
Is it possible to fly one way for cheaper in July?

Haya !
have you tried Ryanair or equivalent ? otherwise buy a return even if you do not use it as it would be cheaper ;DA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Yes that happened to me too. We could fly Edinburgh to birmingham with flybe.com for just the tax. but the return was going to be £18 +tax . BA would do a return for £14 +tax Each way. Bright spark thought we could save £20 and just book 5 singles back from Birmingham thinking it would be £14 +tax.
NOPE
Over £200 each.
Well they lost out.
We just let the "train take the strain" 1/2 a mile to the local station into Birmingham for £160 return for the 5 of us0 -
Er..... why didn't you just book the return trip at the cheap price and not use the second leg ticket?
(Maybe a couple of quid more expensive than the train but probably worth it if you didn't need the return leg... )0 -
Ryanair are the obvious choice for Dublin. Unless I lived near Gatwick or Heathrow and could park at or travel to the airport I would expect to use Ryanair from Stansted or Luton every time. travel to Stansted is especally easy now from London with several coach operators and the train. Ryanair can also be guaranteed to give their cheapest fare if you buy "one way". In fact I have three times now bought two one-way tickets instead of a return because due to a quirk in their system, the combined return fare is sometimes bigger than two singles even if the single leg of the journey back to UK is charged in Euros or some other European currency!
Check out Aer Lingus also. Every now and then they try to compete. Not sure about London City airport except it's supremely convenient for City people.0 -
Ryanair definitely has some strange quirks in its system. I tried to book a return flight from Dublin to Paris; the dublin site said there were no seats available on the return flight yet a seat was available when I went into the ryanair french site so I booked a single flight from each web site. The 2 single flights were slightly cheaper than the return flight.0

Try asking the Airline if they use Couriers (BA & Virgin both used to I have not heard any different in 8 years) they are between £100 - 150 anywhere and there is only one on each flight and it is Business Class.
All you do is carry paperwork to hand in at customs at the other end - no not drug courier - normally important goods that need special speed or the like and the Airline have inspected the goods so no risk.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

I livi in Florida but when I was looking earlier in the year to book our flights for this summer back home to Blighty, I checked out American Airways to London.
$ 650.00 Orlando to Miami then change and Miami to Heathrow.
Thinking that I could drive to Miami and see how much just the same filght was from there.
$ 900.00 for 1 flight less and flying on the same aircraft and fligh number!
Can anyone tell me where the logic is there?C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

I should think that as the OP raised this query nearly five years ago that they might not need advising further on this matter
