E.on Direct Debit.

For the first time ever, I had to cancel my Direct Debit to avoid bank charges, as my employer hadn't paid my wages.
I phoned a week later, to reinstate, and pay the missed payment of £88, leaving a balance of £25 debit. It's not like I left it several weeks, as I am more than capable of sticking my head in the sand!
I was frankly quite shocked by the options.
a) Pay £113 and direct Debit payments will be £99
b) Don't pay, and DD payments will be £128.
Where did my £88 option go? I already thought I was paying too much. My estimated November amount bill was nearly £200, then on submission of meter readings, it came down to £134, and now it's £113, very odd, as there were no payments credited during this period.
I am in the process of applying for E.on's Warm Home Discount, so it should be seen that we are a vulnerable household, and leaving us with really the only option of quarterly was not what I expected.
I had hoped E.on would look after me as a customer that has stayed loyal to them, never being late or missing payments. There's no point me having a DD which isn't affordable.
I feel let down by the refusal to let me catch up, and have the payments as they were :-(

Is this for gas or electric?
If gas then at this time of year you should really have built up a substantial credit balance for winter, not having a debit balance.
Eon have a policy where customers have a zero balance by spring, so if customers do not have a credit balance now with having the summer time to build this up what chance do they have of reaching a zero balance in a few months time when you are going to be using more gas than during the summer.
If electric then usage doesnt vary much throughout the year so a small debit balance now shouldnt be cause for concern.
While the application for the Warm Home Discount is going through, assume you have not got it until you hear otherwise. Theres no point counting on this discount until you know for sure.
I would ask them for a written explanation of how they have come to these figures0 -
It's just for electric. My heating is LPG, as there's no mains gas to the village.
I'm not counting on the Warm Home Discount, it'll just be a bonus. But I have 1 tick in section 1, 3 in each of sections 3 and 4 due to disabled child. So Hopeful, but realistic.
If I can't have affordable payments, I lose my discounts. I have no objection to paying a balance, but when I only owe a small amount, what they are asking me to pay is excessive.

As it is electric i would request a written explanation as to why they feel the need to increase the payments.
It may be perfectly justified it could be extremely unreasonable.
Are you on a fixed price tariff? If not then the cost of electric would have increased recently.
It would also help if you post your annual KwH usage figures0 -
Hi munchings-n-crunchings,
It does sound like the Direct Debit is being set to try to achieve the zero balance for the spring review.
It might have also been increased as the prices have gone up, so your payments will need to reflect this.
As your account was also in a small debit the amount you have been paying isn't quite enough for the amount of energy that you have been using.
Has the account now been billed to accurate readings?
Are you on the best tariff for your needs?
I'm sure we can come to some sort of agreement though
