Can you not hook the karaoke player to ur laptop and play the cdg files from the hard drive with karafun or something similar?A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

You need to have a burner that supports CD+G. Not all do.
Absolutely! And from memory Plextor & Yamaha are/were the major players. Some Samsung's and LG's will also work, but you want a CDr drive that natively supports CD+G in firmware and they are quite scarce.
What I would say is this; don't waste lots of money on different software trying to do this as it won't fix a thing - it's nearly always a hardware issue.
From a software perspective the preferred choice 'back in the day' for utter reliability burning cd+g was Goldenhawk's cdrwin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDRWIN but what state that is now in I could not say.
EDIT: adding this, as it may help:

Allegedly, this drive supports CD+G and can be had for around the £30 mark
