Help! Car accident and Insurance
Hi folks,
I hope you can help me. Yesterday a car hit the side of me as I was driving along a main road- he was coming from the side road. I was at no fault at all and my best mate was in the car with me. I pulled over straight away and asked him why he hit me. He was very abusive and said that he told me to drive and I put my foot on the brake (a big lie). Basically he caused some damage on the quarter panel- it is out of place and their are black scuffs (which can't come off) and scrapes on the bottom part. He refused to give me his name/number/insurance details and then drove off. I got his reg plate no. and also my mate called the police and got a reference.
The question is - if I inform my car insurance company about this will it affect my no claims? Apparently just informing them of an accident even if you are not at fault or you claim will affect your renewal price?
Sorry but I have never got into any kind of accident before and not sure what to do. I have an excess of £150 if I claim so maybe I am better off fixing the work myself?
Thanks in advance

You need to attend a police station and report this within 24hours. If you claim off your insurance you face losing your bonus. Check to see if the car is insured first.0

The Turner- I have already gone to the police station, they gave me a Form 207 for Road Traffic Collision/Accident to fill out.
Buy It Now- I have no idea how much it would cost to fix, i will have to take it to a garage to see- the accident happened yesterday evening.0 -
If you get his insurance details make a claim direct to them. Just tell yours for information only.0

I know right- how on earth could he have communicated that to me unless I was focussing on him and not the road.
The Turner- are you sure that giving my insurance company the information will not lead to my insurance going up next year. As some companies say that even if you are not a fault but get in an accident it could affect you?0 -
Your insurance may go up but you need to tell them.0

Your premiums will likely rise regardless of fault when you inform your insurers of the accident. However, you will find that it's in the t&cs that you must inform them of any accident where a claim may result.I know right- how on earth could he have communicated that to me unless I was focussing on him and not the road.
