Ford Fiesta Stuttering/missfire

Got a fiesta Mk6 (53 reg) 1.4 16v Zetec with 86k miles on the clock
Had a Miss-fire on it 3 or 4 months back which caused engine light to flash and put car into limp mode.
Called AA and they diagnosed it to be coil pack but in fact when he took off engine cover it turned out it was water build up around plugs and ht leads as washer jets leak rainwater and drops into spark plug well.
I dried it all out and then sealed around the washer jets using silicon sealant and to date had no problems. However a couple of weeks back I was sat in traffic and the revs started to dip bounce but only for a few seconds – thought nothing of it but checked plugs and leads for water and all dry so I assumed maybe some dirty fuel and problem didn’t return.

Anyway this morning my wife was driving it and she phoned me to say it was stuttering again whilst sat at lights and also intermittently in 2nd gear & 4th gear but only intermittently. Engine light as not lit up on dash.

I will check plugs & leads for water when I get home but could this point to being coil pack?

Any advice appreciated please.

  • whenever I've had a coil pack problem the car just wouldn't start. When I had misfiring and stuttering it was a corroded HT lead or corrosion in the dizzy cap, although if you've had issues before it could be from that. Could be worth changing the plugs.

Also had water in the plug holes, got washer seals from ford for £3.00 i think, perfect cure, the washer jet is a known fault with .

Ford suggest that if the coil pack is replaced, the leads are replaced aswell.

Either plugs, leads or coilpack. Check in that order.

Cars will generally start and drive with a faulty coilpack
