Black enamel or stainless steel gas hob?

Thought I'd ask for some advice as it's one of the things I can't decide on for the new kitchen.
I much prefer the look of a black hob but looking around they seem to be quite a bit less popular than stainless steel and for some reason design advisor we saw tried to sway us towards stainless steel? Is there any reason behind it or is it just the look? Is black more difficult to clean? Units will be cream with oak colour worktops, country style kitchen.
Like the look of this hob but can't find it in real shops to have a look at! http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/T21S31S1-Neff-Series-1-Gas-Hob-Black-21450.aspx

I would instinctively go with the stainless steel, but I must admit that the black does look good. Your ultimate decision depends on the surrounds - worktop, units etc.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

We had a steel hob in the past
It was a P.I.A to clean, any rough debris left on it, caused scratches, if you didn't clean it up carefully.
Have an induction hob now, so easy to clean, just a spray of glass cleaner and it sparkles!0 -
Why dont you look at gas on tempered or ceramic glass? Black enamel can and will scratch as will stainless steel.
Glass is much less likely to scratch.

we have a black one, it never looks properly clean, always streaks. Previously had a stainless steel one, was a bit more forgiving in terms of streaks/clean looking, but scratched very easily - swings and roundabouts really!0

Glass is much less likely to scratch.
Glass can be scratched. Glass can and will crack, chip or break. It is unrepairable. It is easy to keep clean.
Enamel is highly scratch resistant but can chip. It is easy to keep clean.
Stainless steel will not chip or break but could be dented. It will scratch. It is easy to keep clean.

Hejo - No they are only available in 4 and 5 ring versions in 60,70 and 90cm widths.
thetope- Have you tried using an Ecloth to clean it? I have one and its bother free to clean. And please use a clean E-cloth.
DirectDebacle - Ceramic glass hobs are much better for scratch and chip resistance but dearer. Nothing can be guaranteed against damage but having used both glass and ceramic hobs, I'd recommend glass all the time. We’ve had to remove your signature.
