Vision Express

I went for an eye test as Vision Express. I then chose frames. When I was paying for the frames, the optician informed me that the style of frame I had chosen would not work with standard lenses (60 quid), and that I would have to pay 145 quid for specially thinned lenses.

I refused and said that I wanted them with standard lenses - I have short sight and the lenses I need are not particularly thick but I felt really pressurised and uncomfortable.

The optician then charged me 20 quid for the supposedly free eye test. When I asked she said she didn't know if it was free or not (even though there was a huge sign in the window saying "free eye test") and she did remove the charge, but it didn't feel good.

It seems really unfair that they can push an extra 85 pound spend on customers who choose certain frames :(

If it was a rimless or supra (semi-rimless) then it is wise to glaze them with mid or high index lenses as these materials are tougher. Conventional plastic lenses would be liable to splitting/chipping.
