what can i take on board

we're off to Florida on monday:j and was wondering what i can take on board by way of entertainment.
can i take my embroidery- needles etc? i'm guessing i can't take knitting needles or scissors.
what about snacks for the children?

    Nothing sharp and no liquids in containers of more than 100ml.

    If you go to http://www.baa.com they will tell you what you can take on board and with reference to liquids how to package them.

    Check the airline's website for what they provide for children on long haul flights, you may not need to take many snacks yourself, apart from favourites.
