Bit confused as to what to suggest :S

Hi Guys,
Someone who I know received an NCP parking fine put on their windscreen for not displaying a valid pay and display ticket in an open air car park. It's actually a bit of a shame because it was the one day out of however many that they just forgot to get a ticket.
It's one of the ones for 'not showing a valid ticket', pay £50 within 14 days or £100 thereafter.
Originally, the gut reaction would always be to pay it - but i came on here to see whether it's worth a nice letter to say 'sorry, I just forgot that day, can you let me off' - but then I saw that some people just don't pay them?
What would people suggest that I suggest (it's not me, just a close friend...) as I understand from the other posts that it might be unenforceable?
Any thoughts?
It's worth noting that they'd like to continue parking in this car park on an ongoing basis - not sure if that affects it?
Cheers

Ignore it. It's a scam invoice!!
Why would you pay a scam invoice?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Don't bother paying it. They'll eventually send you letters threatening to ban you from their car parks (with no barriers? - as if), they'll threaten to pass it to debt collectors etc etc.
Long story short: Powerless.0 -
NCP have never ever done court. Just ignore.0

Cheers guys - so just to confirm then...
Even though there wasn't a ticket on the vehicle... you can just ignore it? And is that because they can't prove the driver?
Will you still be able to park in the car park on an ongoing basis?
Will they clamp the car or do anything like that?
Just out of interest, if they can't enforce the parking fines, why does anyone pay for tickets ever?
(Sorry for being thick!)
Thanks for all of your advice!!!0 -
""Just out of interest, if they can't enforce the parking fines, why does anyone pay for tickets ever?""
Because every landowner who lends you a spot to park on deserves paying if there is a charge levied. Just good manners really.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
They can't clamp the car on your land or public land. They may do so in their own car parks but they must display warning signs and it must be a licensed clamper. NCP may be the countrys biggest parking provider but that doesn't mean they like spending money on things like licensed clampers. They only bluff.. they think their yellow stripey coloured letters make them look scary. The truth is that they don't do court, at their size they can't afford to start scaring the nation.
Be warned though, you can get away with it now but NCP are big and very influential with the BPA who are pushing for registered keeper liability expected to come in next year. IF it actually goes through I'm pretty sure NCP will take the moral high ground over the motorist and start persecuting them.0 -

About 40% of people don't pay. The other 60% are intimidated by the threatening junk mail these companies send and pay up.0
