Its a difficult situation and personally i would not be impressed with someone feeding my cat, infact i would go out of my way to tell them off .... Anyway back to topic :o
<snip>I sympathise with you and if you live in Aylesbury send me a private message with where you live so i can ensure your neighbour isnt feeding one of my little monsters
To be fair, if you let your cats wander, you can't stop other people feeding them - whether they're doing it accidentally or on purpose. You've kind of forfeited your rights to tell them off by letting your cat roam free (afterall, if it's pinching their own cat's food, maybe it's you who needs the telling off for your cat's 'theft' ;))
Let your cat out to roam and you lose control of some aspects, that's just something you have to accept. If you want full control then take control by keeping the cat in/using a cat run, simples.

Thank you for that little insight into cat owning. Shall we stick to the OP issue instead of me telling my neighbours off! :p

Have you tried filling the litter tray with garden dirt? He may not like the gritty feel of cat litter.

I would try adding a couple of litter trays with different litter in them, perhaps one with some outside dirt would be more apealing? Cats can be VERY fussy when it comes to litter so perhaps your using the wrong stuff for his lordship

We've tried all sorts in the litter box..... the gritty stuff, the sort of shredded tissue stuff, the wood chip type, soil, newspaper, sawdust - not tried turf yet, I think that's probably worth trying

He uses a litter tray at the cattery he goes to and I've asked them what they use and tried putting the same stuff in the litter tray at home, but he still won't use it.

Perhaps it the location of the tray then? Cats can be sooo fussy :p

We got caught out last year with the snow so this year we are prepared. We have a bag of soil ready and some patches at the back of the flower beds ready to be covered up so we can lift the covers off if it snows and Ollie has somewhere to go :o The things you do for your cat!

Is it possible to lift the cat food so its only down for a few minutes a couple of times a day? If you say he sleeps all day then it might be an option!

I know, but she just laughs it off and she is such a good neighbour in every other way and I don't want to fall out with her.

Its a shame you cant scare the life out of this intruder to stop him coming in (scaring doesnt mean harming to those just about to jump on me!) because to make your home a scary and unpredictable place and therefore not worth going to would be better!
Yes, but he only comes in when there's no-one at home
    antw23uk wrote: »
Have you thought about taking the food up? So give him ten minutes to eat his food and then put it away (he may be old but he will soon learn this little gem of a trick, lol) that way the intruder will have nothing to eat when he comes in and soon move on.
He's often asleep before I go out in the morning and I don't want to leave him without food until I get home as if I'm late getting away to lunch he might not get fed until 2pm

Thanks, I'm nowhere near Aylesbury though so don't worry :D

We have tried putting it in various places over the years, but not found anywhere agreeable to him yet :(

Trying to co-ordinate the times at home with the few minutes each day he's awake would be the problem :D

TBH I thought by locking the cat flap for a few weeks the other cat would eventually give up trying to get in - but he's more persistant than I gave him credit for

I think there are several families wondering why their cats are putting on weight or not eating so much at home anymore :D

She says she'll probably get another cat one day (I think she's still getting over losing her last one).

Can you get her a toy cat till she is ready?
