Overpaid car insurance - missing ncd

I've just realized that I've been paying twice as much as I should for my car insurance.
My mistake - insurance company asked me to provide a proof of no claims discount but I forgot due to various reasons which are not important. The fact is - I have paid nearly double of the original amount for nearly 10 months.
Obviously I can provide ncd now - I have it in front of me as I requested it from my ex-car insurance provider.
The big question is - can I claim the refund for the overpayment? Or, as it is entirely my fault - should I just forget about it?

I can smell a bit of sarcasm here
It's obvious I will be claiming this back - I just wanted to know whether I should do it in certain way? And whether there are more silly people like me creating silly problems for themselves...0 -

Phone them up and ask for the money.
If the person on the phone is unable to be helpful or they don't refund you within 21 days, get put pen to paper and write letter sending it recorded delivery. I would send it to the complaints address with the word "Formal Complaint" as it would be a complaint as you already phoned up and asked.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
