re-windows media player?

Hi Guys, I have just had a dialogue box pop up several times today regarding Windows Media Player 11, select which option I require, express, recommended, or custom;;;I rarely use media player, but have been putting new photo,s on in the last week, which I think????uses media player;The only way of clearing the box was to select an option, which I selected express(recommended) then finish;;;It went;;;
It said it was default player;;;fleetingly, then gone;;I checked W/updates and nothing about Media/P;;;I have tried to launch Media/P , ;to see if it is version 11;Nothing happens, Media will NOT launch;;;running scans now, jn case It was a Virus I have imported;;
Can anyone give advice please??

try removing it entirely from control panel and then reboot and then install from scratch (if indeed the machine is virus free).

Right click on a photo , select open with , Fax and Photo Viewer.

hi, dixie, thanks for reply,;;everthing is clear;but still unable to launch windows m/p from all progs;;;
it,s not in add/remove, and i,ve been onto m/p via windows site, says it,s part of my vista suite home premium as default, but nowhere to download if again if I could remove it;;
there,s viewpoint m/p in add/remove and nti, that,s all;;;as I say,
never play/store music on pc;;;;why it should pop up 3years after pc bought, I,ve no idea;there was no lead up to it;;
I have restored; months ago factory settings, using acer e-recovery, but that left OP alone;;

Hi again D, done that, but, there,s no fax/photo viewer;;;only photo gallery and paint, deault is P/G ;that works ok with pics, that,s what I use to import, add/remove pics too???

Hi gunjack, it,s the pain, again.thanks for link,,,but, it,s telling me I already have a newer version installed on my pc, so cannot use that one to repair or change the existing one;;so I presume it,s corrupt somehow;;;I it,s not in add/remove, how can I take corrupt one off, then doing a reinstal;;;edit;;right clicked on it in all progs, found location of file, but nothing about yesterdays action;;;october was last activity shown, umpteen wmp files;;;It says delete, but presume that,s shortcut only?? ps;;;go live 16th with TT;;;;
