ive been made redundant

Hi, i just after some advice i was made redundant back in May of this year, and to be honest i didnt think there was much i can do as in reclaiming tax or anything as i thought i would find a job pretty quickly. Its now December and i havent found anything except for helping friends decorating etc. This month i have been hit with 2 direct debit refusals which cost me 25 pound each and i am totally struggling!! has anyone got some advice for what i could reclaim via tax office or my debit card

    sorry about your redundancy.

Did you sign on at the Job centre?

Normally they would adjust tax automatically assuming you had a regular contract of employment. AS it was May then if you were on PAYE, it would only be tax paid on earnings in this tax year.

Not sure what you mean about debit card though?

just one of those things i suppose. I haven't signed on as my wife earns a good wage so i know i wouldnt be entitled to anything. By debit card i was thinking of reclaiming bank charges but wasnt sure if this would be detremental to myself and the bank might close my account. So with tax i probably wouldnt be entitled to anything? Been looking of the tax office web site they say fill in a P50

ASsuming that you have paid enough NI contributions then you would have been entitled to contribution based JSA no matter how much your OH earns or indeed if you have savings.

I would focus on getting that form filled in for the tax, and get down there (see the gov website on making a claim) and see what you are entitled to. It might be easier than the bank route.
