No claims discount for named drivers

Hello all.
Trying to get my little brother cheap car insurance, the cheapest quote I could find was using Martin's tips was about 1400. He is a first time driver, but that is way too much and I used all of Martin's advice. The only other way round this is to make him a named driver on someone else's policy. However this may be a false economy as my brother will not build up a no claims bonus and suffer later. I have found a solution to this problem with Direct Line that give no claims to named drives but was wondering if any other insurer did something similar as this is quite expense. I also went through quidco to lower the costs. Also I do realise the downside to this offer that only direct line recognises my brother's NCD but its better than 1400. Any help would be appreciated, thanks all.
P.S the quote from direct line was 580.

I have driven for many years as a named driver on my husbands policy. I now have a car of my own. So I got some quotes without noclaims bonus which were quite high, so then I approached my husbands insurers (Churchill). Explained the situation to them and they matched his no claims onto a policy for me. So we are both insured to drive both cars and each have full protected no claims.0

Insurance will always be higher for your little brother as he is classified as a higher risk driver. I know this sounds stupid but he should and needs to insure the car in his own name. For a few reasons.
*If he is the owner and keeper of the car, then nobody else can insure it for him. There woulf be no insurable interest if you insured it for him.
* If you insure the car and add him as a named driver you would also need to delcare that he will be the main driver, which would be reflected in the premium. If you decide not to tell the insuarnce company that he will be the main driver then the policy would be "Fronted" which in insurance terms me your insuring the car in your name to get cheaper insurance for your brother when infact the car is his. Your policy would be void.
* If your brother is the ower, keeper and the main user he should insure the car in his own name, Ok the 1st year will be stupid prices, but least should anything claims arise you know he will be covered. Least insuring the car this year means if he driver claim free for 12mths he will then get 1yrs NCD which is near to 30% discount next year
Hope that helpsIf I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0 -

This is very useful information, as I actually didn't know the legal position when putting named drivers on a policy. But when growing up and all my friends started to drive there was two options insure yourself, or become a named driver on the parents policy. I had taken into account that the car would have to be owned by the policy holder and co-habiting and declared all this. However if my brother is a named driver and uses the car most of the time the insurance company isn't going to find out. Any way he has only got a provisional licence and will properly take at least half a year to past and in that time I will properly be using the car so technically he wouldn't be using the car as a main driver. Going to check the other sites now and get some quotes.

The insurance companies are well aware of "fronting" which is what this would be. When/if it comes to a claim they may well start asking questions if they are suspicious.
It would invalidate the insurance so best be careful.0 -
Cheers will be taken into account. Also got the insurance down to 490. Cheers for the help.0
