Direct Sales advertising on Job Centre website?

Options
Have just been scouring the job centre website - ever hopeful of the ideal job and am astounded by how many direct sales companys/reps are advertising jobs.

In particular Bettaware advertising a Retailer post. I clicked into it and was gob smacked that they can do this!

Is this just a rep who's trying to get more people in their team or is it something direct sales companies do now??

Am surprised that the job centre has let them advertise.

Is it wrong or am I missing something??

The question is, why are you gobsmacked? Do you regard Direct Selling as illegal or immoral?

Why would it be immoral? Duh!

I do direct selling so I lurve it!

What I'm gobsmacked is that they are allowed to advertise on the job Centre website!

I thought there was some rule against it - and that its not an employer/agency advertising a vacancy but a self employment opportunity.

    Must just be me.........

Jayne, glad you love DS, I got the (wrong) impression that you were one of the many haters who thought it shouldnt be allowed in a Job Centre.
I think DS should be promoted in a lot more places, its a great option these days with the economic/job problems that there are. It must be shown up front that its a self employed position though, not a job, otherwise its dishonest.

    Good luck

I don't like the haters - I think we have to do what we can to get by and I love DS!

I'm not pushy and people like the stuff - win win situation! :)

I used to work at the Job Centre quite a few years ago and it was a definate no to Direct sales Businesses mainly i believe because there wasn't an hourly rate and money had to be paid to join. I called a friend a while ago who still works there and she told me i wouldn't be able to advertise if it was direct Sales Company but i also notice there are several on the website. On a local level i can't advertise but perhaps i should try via the website then :)

In this economic climate i think the Job Centre should be welcoming every vacancy and opportunity and let the clients themselves make a decision as long as the adverts are truthful and not misleading because that then damages the concept and gives it a bad name.

The job centre is for *jobs* - where the pay and conditions are laid out formally beforehand, in writing. You will do this many hours starting at X and flashing at Y and you will get XX.XX per hour.

If they have a separate area for companies like Betterware - indeterminate hours for xx% of sales no joining fee, no guarantee of income then thats fine. The rest of the various companies like Kleeneze and avon need to make themselves clear who they are and that there are fees to start and ongoing.

My very real concern is the rise in adverts like **Team leader needed earn £500 - £1000 a month** when in fact it's kleeneze agents trying to recruit and making out people can earn a fortune. They rarely even mention kleeneze - knowing that if they did people would say *I'm not doing catalogues*

Given that there are a huge amount of people looking at losing their jobs and that kleeneze agents fail at the rate of 9 out of 10 it concerns me that many desperate people will have their money eased out of their pockets by these people.

Whats needed are real jobs for people bringing in real wages .

Yes, what is needed are real jobs, but its not going to be happening in our generation, or the next I reckon. The world is changing, populations are going up, other countries like India and China are providing the low paid jobs, and countries like ours are having increasing unemployment.
The ''job'' market has to change and people are going to have to look at other ways to earn a living, such as self employment. These opportunities need to be advertised, not hidden away, including in places where people are looking for opportunities to make a living. Yes, most people in job centres are looking for jobs and will probably never be open to self employment, but if some people have their eyes opened to another way, it can only be a good thing.
As long as its made absolutely clear that its a self employed, business opportunity without a wage, I don't see a problem.

  • Well said Pat !! In this economic climate people really need to be aware of all the options open to them and then they can make a decision for themselves especially as so many families are struggling to make ends meet even with full time jobs so even an extra £100- £200 a month could keep a roof over some families heads .

Not if it costs them that much to do it though. If ANYONE has money troubles then signing up with the most commonly found DSA company like Kleeneze would be a very bad idea - it'll cost an arm and a leg to do and they'll never see this magical £100 - £200 a month.

Anyone reading this should beware of claims like people saving their houses by doing kleeneze or the like - I've seen the way recruiting is done and they'll say literally anything. Beware of stuff online like Facebook where the amount of Cr*p written is alarming.

if people want a self employed thing to do and know it will cost them and arm and leg with a fractional chance they might make some money then go right ahed - but to prey on peoples desperation that wrong.
